Apparent Brightness is a group blog about astronomy, written by
- Robert Cumming (all posts)
- Ulrike Heiter (all posts)
- Jens Melinder (all posts)
- and Thomas Marquart (all posts) who “invented” and maintains this site.
It originates and includes the texts from astronomy2006.blogspot.com, where some of us wrote about the IAU General Assembly in August 2006. You can find all these postings here. Some of abovementioned people have since stopped contributing to this blog and as of late October 2007 it is mainly used to mention or shortly comment on interesting new papers (see also here).
The title “Apparent Brightness” refers to the amount of light that astronomers recieve from an astronomical object. Sources farther away look fainter and only after taking this into account, the apparent brightness becomes absolute.
We surely encourage you to comment on our posts. Discussing astronomy and science in general is fun and disagreement is welcome. However, we will not hesitate to delete insulting comments or to ban trolls.
